With foundations dating back to the 17th century; this former coaching inn has been transformed into a charming, contemporary retreat that faces the famous Wrekin Hill. With Junction 7 of the M54 nearby and local attractions such as Telford Iron Bridge, Blists Hill Victorian Museum, Sunnycroft National Trust and the Shropshire hills, The Old Orleton Inn is perfectly placed to enjoy a break away.
We’ve recently been honoured to be a part of Telford’s 50th Anniversary celebrations as one of Telford’s 50 buildings of interest. The wonderful team from the local council came and completed a 3D scan of the building- including some beautiful 360 photographs of our gardens! An Inn With A Rich History…
A coaching inn dating back to the 17th century, with its origins dating even further back to the 14th century, the inn has seen many patrons come and go over the years, including Queen Victoria herself- she didn’t stay as it wasn’t deemed worthy for her royal highness.. but her staff did!
On the main coach route from here to London- the inn saw up to 4 daily mail coaches leave the premises.
A Little bit of History for Breakfast..
The meat products in our full English breakfast are supplied by The Themans at Wenlock Edge Farm- Much Wenlock. Mrs Themans was one of the ‘Bebb’s Girls’ born in this inn when the Bebb family were tenant farmers of the Orleton Estate from the early 1900s to the 1960s. this brief period of private occupation as a farmhouse is the only time the Inn has not been in public use as records show a hostelry on this site since at least 1400.
The Rise of the Falcon..
In 1971 the Inn went back to it’s origins and became The Falcon Inn, ran for many years as a popular community place to gather and enjoy a drink or 2!
In 2006 The Old Orleton came into being as it was lovingly renovated to the highest of standards
The newly restored and sympathetically refurbished interior balances modern additions and contemporary styling whilst maintaining many original features- including the old service bells! All ten rooms were individually designed to provide everything you could need from a stay – whether on business or leisure.
From single executive to our beautiful bridal suite.
The New proprietors Sophie & David took over the Inn on August 1st 2018, with a new energy and want to bring back the community feel of Wellington and maintain the excellent service that has always been received here- some changes have already taken place with the addition of an outdoor bar and BBQ area, and many more to come including the addition of a wedding license, this Historic building will continue on as a place for the community, business travelers and tourists alike for many years to come!
